A father may only be a dad for a little while, but he is a daughters/son’s hero forever.
Father’s day is just around the corner, did you know this day has its origin in Washington in 1910? This day was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd, a daughter of a Civil War Veteran who raised his six children being a single father.
It is a praxis to gift the fathers with some present every third Sunday of June. With the passing of the years, the presents have been going to bigger levels, but today in Matabi we want to go back to the origins when this presents where handmade with much love. So here’s some ideas you can use:
Make a pot out of empty cans
Who doesn't have an empty can at home? Steel planters are becoming a trend in gardens and it is also a good way to give this non-biodegradable material a second life and thus collaborate with the ecosystem.
Have you found that empty can yet? Let’s start then.
First thing you need to do is wash and drain the can well. Take a good look when washing it and if it has any labels, remove them with hot water and dish soap.
Once washed, open your toolbox and get a hammer and a nail. You will need them to add drainage holes to the bottom of the planter. Some cans already have a really original silkscreen, if you like it a lot, leave it as is, but if you are feeling creative, we encourage you to take some paints and brush in hand and unleash your creativity.
Once the can is dry, add a layer of small stones or gravel to the bottom for drainage.
Now you just need to put the plant in the pot. What about a bonsai?
A long lasting and original plant
A Bonsai tree is a replica of nature in the form of a miniature tree.
Not all bonsai are the same, it is therefore important that you get the right information about the care of the bonsai you’re buying.
But generally, bonsai that are planted in small pots tend to dry out fairly quickly, so it's important to water them regularly.
Likewise, this small tree of Japanese origin, is used to the climate of the jungle, this is why its highly recommended to spray its leaves at least once a week. And considering the size of the bonsai, you won't need a very large sprayer.
Here’s a nice list of our sprayers:
